A special Canada 150 version of Beakerhead is in the works!
Imagine an adventure of celebratory proportions —
a citywide journey that engages your muscles and your mind, delighting
your senses and your spirit. Together with many collaborating organizations
and community members, we’ll turn locations in the Calgary core into a
connected, larger-than-life, delightful, interactive experience —
with the ups and downs that tell Canada’s story of human ingenuity.
Snakes and Ladders will be a tourism destination experience building on the regular September Beakerhead smash-up with a big dose of Canada 150 energy. This experience will span city walkways, blocks, buildings and parks. Long term, Snakes and Ladders could become a year-round experience that is built out in a more permanent way over the next decade or two — throughout the core, across the river, under and over urban space — to tell the story of Calgary’s resiliency and the ups-and-downs of entrepreneurship.
As always, Beakerhead is looking for delightful and inspiring installations, kinetic sculptures, objects and experiences that open an entertaining door to the world of science and engineering. In 2017, the special Canada 150 version of Beakerhead will be around the theme of Snakes and Ladders. It will consist of approximately 12 quirky, interactive installations in Calgary’s “core” that tell the tale of Canada’s creative gumption over the past 150 years.
Thank you for submitting your proposals! The first round of review begins January 15. Applications will continue to be accepted until January 20.
