Hop on a bus and bring your class to learn through direct interaction with Beakerhead’s most spectacular programs. Field trips should be preceded and followed by in-class activities provided by Beakerhead.

In 2016, Beakerhead is pleased to offer these two field trips:

Engineered Spectacle Tour

Grades 4 to 12

Explore an outdoor gallery of art and engineering spread across several parts of Calgary! Your students will visit Beakerhead’s most stunning feats of human ingenuity. Experience larger than life artworks from out of this world, to the depths of the sea. Explore extra-terrestrial communication with a giant two-story installation called the B.A.S.S. Ship. There will be plenty for your students to see and take in on this tour of Beakerhead.

Pre- and post- trip activities for field trips are provided in the Field Guide to Beakerhead, which includes activities related to competencies to help guide and enrich student learning. The Field Guide will be ready in late August.

  • Dates: September 14, 15 and 16
  • Duration: Each class will be assigned a start time and will follow a recommended route, which is expected to take two hours. Picnic spots for lunch and snacks are identified.
  • Cost: CA$5.00 per student

Application Deadline: Registration now closed.

The Locked Room

Grades 7 to 12

Beakerhead is delighted to partner with The Locked Room to kick-start your students’ core competencies ideal for developing collaboration and problem-solving skills among teenagers. This is a field trip that will unite your class in a positive spirit of inquiry! Groups of 6-10 will participate in a variety of themed Locked Rooms (that contain video cameras!) and have only an hour to escape by following clues and solving puzzles. Working in the moment, students don’t realize that they are applying spatial and mechanical aptitude, logic and reasoning skills, and basic math and word knowledge. All three Locked Room locations (NE, SE and Southland Drive) will be participating in this year’s Beakerhead!

  • Dates: September 12 to 16
  • Duration: 1.5 hours includes orientation, escape session and debrief. Morning and afternoon time slots available.
  • Cost: CA$17.50 per student

Application Deadline: Registration now closed.
