BowWave is a technology-driven excuse to revel in the beauty of the Bow River. See the river. Play the river. Illuminated, interactive shapes stretch out on a 200-metre gravel beach created by the 2013 flood waters. This artwork is the embodiment of connections – created by long-time friends – Alana Biffert, Kaely Dekker, Raelen Dekker, Marta Gorski, Ian Martens, Chad Nixon, Nils Sundstrom, and Steve Vaivada – who work as engineers, artists, designers, and makers.
It uses reclaimed gear from the old Calgary Science Centre with advanced technology, connecting all quadrants and peoples of the city at a location of massively historical significance. Shazam!
Where do you view it? Visit the interactive platform on the south bank of the Bow river – just east of the Centre Street Bridge along the river path. September 13 – 17, 2017
Wednesday – Saturday 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Sunday 10 am – 6:00 pm
BowWave is one of 14 sites across Beakerhead Snakes and Ladders; a larger-than-life adventure across multiple engineered experiences and artworks connected by a common theme: the ups and downs of invention. Each site will have a sign and board game tile – where you’ll get to choose your own navigational adventure!
