Make your way to Beakerhead and take back a school year's worth of memories. Field trips are an excellent way to get muscles and minds fired up for the year ahead.

In 2017, Beakerhead is pleased to offer these three field trips:

Engineered Spectacle Tour

Grades 4 to 12

Take your students on an interactive walk in Calgary to visit several larger than life installations spread across downtown! On your trip, students will encounter science, engineering and art in a way that sets them up for a successful year of inspired learning. With pre, post, and during trip activities provided in the Field Guide, learning will accelerate right off the mark with this half day field trip. This year's features include a fire-breathing serpent!

  • Dates: September 13, 14, and 15
  • Duration: Each class will be assigned a start time and follow a self-guided recommended route, which is expected to take about 3 hours. Picnic spots will be identified.
  • Cost: $5.00 per student

Application Deadline: May 5 at 11:59 pm

Calgary Municipal Space Station

Grades 4 to 12

It is 2047 and Calgary has opened up the world’s first Municipal Space Station (which happens to look a lot like the Calgary Tower). Your students can take part in the official opening week! Students will start with some interactive “training” in the base of the Tower. Yes, it’s public transit, but there are still a few basics that all space travellers need to learn. Then, hop in the space elevator and get a lift to space. Once at the top, your students will engage in a series of activities that get them to think about the future of space travel. This field trip includes learning about the engineering of the Calgary Tower (did you know that it sways 18 inches in the wind!).

  • Dates: September 11 to 15
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Cost: $15.00 per student

Possible encore week: September 18 to 22 (as demand allows)

Application deadline: May 5 at 11:59 pm

The Locked Room

Grades 8 to 12

A trip to an escape room feels like entertainment but students don’t realize that they are calling on their spatial and mechanical aptitude, logic and reasoning skills, and basic math and word knowledge to solve the puzzle as a group. Beakerhead has partnered with The Locked Room to create a field trip that hones collaboration and problem-solving for high school students. The Locked Room has three locations (NE, SE and SW) that will put your teenage students to the test using puzzle and clues.

  • Dates: September 11 to 15
  • Duration: 1.5 hours includes orientation, escape session and debrief
  • Times: 9:30 am and 11:30 am slots available daily
  • Cost: $17.50 per student
